Donkey Punch - The Movie

http://www.feministing.com/archives/013881.html

I am beyond sick after viewing the trailer. There is NOTHING sexy about this. It just serves to remind me how far we HAVEN'T come in the past few decades. I would love to find out what the writers were thinking when they wrote this and why any studio executive would think that this would be a good script to greenlight.

Sad, really sad.

Sisterhood

What the hell does that mean? When I think of sisterhood, I picture my close female friends from childhood as well as the women I am close to today.

But isn't sisterhood more?

And, if it isn't, shouldn't it be?

I have been thinking about the concept of sisterhood a great deal lately. It has direct bearing on my life at present.

Here is my dream for sisterhood -

1. We don't tear each other down. We build each other up instead.

2. We work collectively, for the betterment of all women (which would have far reaching implications planet-wide), not just ourselves.

These are two very important precepts of sisterhood. Build each other up. Work collectively.

But, too often, we don't.

I want to tell you a little story that was recently passed on to me.

A good friend of mine had been married several years to man in the military. Their relationship had its ups and downs. They both made mistakes. They both broke their marriage vows. But they had both worked to try and make it better.

Enter another woman. While the husband was away from his wife, he met another woman. She was married, had kids, but seemed to be his mate, his perfect fit. But the wife at home thought they were working on themselves in preparation for their reunion.

The other woman wreaked havoc on their lives. This does not downplay the role the husband had in the affair, but I'm talking about women and sisters here.

The other woman knew the man was married, but didn't care. She didn't care that there was another woman at home, waiting for her man, her husband, to come home and try and build a life together, try and heal the wounds they had caused each other.

This other woman is not a sister.
How can a woman do that to another woman? It doesn't matter if you have never met, or if you have been told stories about her. She is a woman and, therefore, worthy of dignity and respect.

Yet the other woman couldn't care less in the pursuit of her selfish desires.

Childish, immature and totally lacking in a sense of honor or responsibility toward the sisterhood.

There are just some things that you don't do.

Screwing over another sister is one of them.

Democrats Take the House!!!

Though the Senate race is still too close to call, the Democrats have taken the House of Representatives!

"Democrats swept Republicans out of power in the U.S. House of Representatives and made gains in the Senate on Tuesday, riding to victory on a wave of public discontent with the Iraq war, corruption and President George W. Bush's leadership."

Nicaragua Outlaws All Abortion

That's right...ALL abortions. Up until recently a woman could have an abortion if her life was in danger or if she was pregnant due to incest or rape.

Not anymore.

That's right folks, now a Nicaraguan woman has to risk her life and her emotional well-being to give birth to another unwanted child. You can read the full story here: http://www.feminist.org/news/newsbyte/uswirestory.asp?id=9962.

During this vote on the abortion ban it is important to note that though Catholic church leaders were able to sit in on the vote, the women's right activists and protestors were forbidden to enter. Note that they were PHYSICALLY denied entrance into the room where the vote was taking place.

I wonder how many of those church leaders were women? And how many of the legislators voting on the ban were women?

Let me guess...uh, few to NONE?

Welcome back to the dark ages. We have a rocky road ahead of us. All of us.

The Alpha...

So this is the beginning...

I have other blogs, in many other places. I wear so many hats these days that it is often difficult to try and get it all there in an organized fashion.

Hence multiple blogs.

I have one for my writing and one for size acceptance. I have a travel blog and two general blogs. I also have a photography blog. So many blogs, so little time. But something was still missing.

The feminist blog!

Yeah, you read me right...the feminist blog.

Now feminism isn't just a label. It is part of who I am. It is part of everything I do. I see the world through my feminist filter and act according to a belief system that is often radical and almost always subversive.

I don't pull my punches and tact is something I usually save for dinner parties (Yeah, like I go to any of those!).

So this is the Alpha...the beginning...my initial post on my strictly feminist blog.

Welcome to my world. Come on in!
